During the week Euan Turner from St Alans AC and Jim King from the Striders took part in the Herts County Champs 10k track event at Sandy, finishing 4th and 5th respectively in 35:03 and 36:35. This earned them both first place in their individual age categories and was a personal best for Euan.

The same evening Chris Wrighton finished in a fantastic 7th place out of 450 runners at the Chase the Sun 10k event at Battersea Park in a time of 34:27 which was 2nd in his age category.

For many 10k is considered long distance, but certainly not for 4 Striders who travelled to the lake District at the weekend to complete what is described at the UK’s most spectacular long distance trail race. Andrew Mckillop covered the 100 mile demanding circular route encompassing the whole of the stunning lakeland fells in 31 hours and 11 mins. Many seasoned ultra runners fail to complete this challenge with the climb of 6,300m, corresponding descent, rugged terrain, darkness and tricky navigation generally resulting in a 40-50% drop-out rate. Andrew received a special slate award at the presentation ceremony for having completed his 5th successful Lakeland 100 finish.

Paul Adams, Jonathan Redshaw and Deborah Steer took on the Lakeland 50 which covered the second half of the Lakeland 100, completing the distance in 9 hours 3 minutes, 12:23 and 13:15 respectively. This is an enormous achievement when considering that runners have to navigate their way across mountainous terrain double the distance of a marathon. Paul Adams finished in a very impressive 13th place.

Andrew Maher completed the 50k Round Reading Ultra Marathon multi terrain race at the weekend in a time of 5 Hours 37 minutes and David Stephens finished in a fantastic 7th place for his age group in the sprint distance at the World Tri Championship Series in Sunderland.
