The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
Saturday brought the final muddy race in this year’s Chiltern Cross Country League at Horspath Path in Oxford. The awards across the full series meant wide ranging success for Striders, picking up lots of individual and team prizes. Most notably, the Women’s team (including the junior categories) came first, with the overall Striders team coming third. Both the Senior and Veterans Women’s Teams came second overall. In individual performances, Louise Bentham came first in her age category, with Steve Buckle picking up second in his, and Kate Dixon coming third in hers.
In Saturday’s race at Horspath, notable results in the men’s race included Adam Yorwerth who was 20th, Chris Dennell who came 29th, and Matthew Nichols who came 33rd. For the women, Christina Durbin came 10th, with Hannah Burkhardt and Catherine O’Connor close behind in 13th and 14th.
On the road, Patrick Hayes came second in the Olympic Park 5k, breaking 17 minutes for the first time with 16.58.
Andrew Maher completed his 81st marathon as part of his mission to get to 100, doing the Zig Zag Running (Chase the Cake) Marathon in Peterborough in 4 hours and 30 minutes.
