The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
The Striders tackled a variety of events in the sunny conditions over the weekend. Freya Weddell won the 5,000m event at the Hertfordshire Track and Field Championships in Watford earning herself a personal best in a fabulous time of 18 min 47 seconds. Jenny and Errol Maginley finished 1st female and 2nd male at the Black to the Trails 10km race in Dunstable Downs in times of 46.30 and 42.23 respectively.
Andrew Maher and Johanna Houlahan chose to go the extra mile at the Shires and Spires event in Naseby Northampton which offered a variety of distances. Maher ran 35 miles (including 753 meters of elevation in a time of 7 hours and 11 min and Houlahan ran 27 miles (697 m of elevation) in 6 hours and 8 min.
Pushing the boundaries even further Christian Kurek completed the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100K, finishing in 136th place out of 715 starters from all over the world (40% of which didn’t finish) in 22 hours and 25 min. The challenging course covered stunning trails, technical ridges, and epic views with an elevation gain of 6,400 meters. Eleanor Lambert was at the same event, opting for the 50k distance which she covered in 10 hours and 55 minutes placing her a very credible 37th female overall and 9th in her age category.
Jonathan White finished in 11 place at the Redbourn fun run 5k in a time of 21.13 and Sue Edwards completed the Stevenage Phoenix 5 mile in 53:45.
