Striders Come Together to claim team gold and silver at Watford Half Marathon

St Albans Striders came out in force as 63 runners put on the yellow and blue vest to tackle the undulating lanes of the Watford half marathon.

A course which has a reputation as one of the toughest half marathons in the local area did not put off the Striders who embraced the near perfect conditions on Sunday morning.

Ross May was first home for the Striders in a time of 1:15:4 to secure a superb top 10 finish. Jacob James (18th), Chris Dennell (25th), Adam Yorwerth (26), and Rob Smith (51) took the men’s team silver in the senior Herts County half marathon championship which was being held during the race.

For the ladies Hannah Burkhardt (6) took county silver and was closely followed by Freya Weddell (9) who secured county bronze. The pair were joined by Helen Cartlidge (17) and Alice Clilverd (75) to complete the winning quartet who claimed gold in the women's team event.

Despite the undulating terrain there were several impressive PBs over the half marathon distance including Chris Dennell (1:19:09), Rob Smith (1:23:48). Adam Herron dug deep to bank his fastest outing since 2012 finishing in 1:38:24.
