The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
Striders were out in force this weekend, to tick off another Superhalf at the Berlin Half Marathon.
Freya Weddell continued her amazing form, taking 90 seconds off her personal best, with a 1:13:55 finish (as the 7th placed GBR female). Stacey Harris also came first in her category at 1:30:36, breaking her own club record. There were also great performances by Jonny Pennell (1:15:20), Hollie Ryder (1:29:21), Adam Herron (1:30:37), Rachel Dixon (1:33:03), Seb Rowe and Tim Searle (both 1:37:09).
On home soil, we were also represented at the Sheffield Half Marathon. Battling the initial 6 mile uphill stretch, Fleur Harvey finished in 1:44:41, with Caroline Bailes and Nicky Laitner crossing the line in 1:50:58.
At the Oakley 20 mile race Craig Dowie came 10th in his category at 2:39:26. Alice Clilverd was pleased to come in under the 3hr mark at 2:53:58. It was also a family affair with Nicola & Mike Trotman (3:27:38) and Phoebe (3:20:46), Linda and Alistair Green (3:29:42) finishing strongly.
Reflecting that running isn’t just a solo sport, Striders and St Albans Athletic Club entered a joint team for the SEAA 6-stage road race relay. Keira Stern, Christie Durbin, Sarah McGrath, Catherine O’Connor, Beckie Cray and Lily Tse finished in 12th with a combined time of 2:24:33.
Richard Davis showed his versatility at the GB Sprint Duathlon Championships at Oulton Park, coming 2nd in his category.
As we hit marathon season, many are putting in the extra miles in their training plans, so it will be great to see those results fly in over the coming weeks.
