Striders finished a season of excellent performances in this year’s Hertfordshire Mid-Week Road Race League with the final League One race in Berkhamstead this week. Despite the scorching heat on Tuesday night, over 70 Striders turned out to race the challenging hilly course, which was shortened to 7k due to the weather.

Successes across all categories meant that Striders won this year’s league, taking the overall title, alongside the women’s, men’s, overall veteran’s and women’s veterans titles. There were fantastic performances across the board, with 159 Striders representing the club across the season, and lots of top 10 finishers from across the club.

Those who took home individual medals were as follows:

• Women’s Open Category - Freya Weddell - first; Catherine O’Connor - second.

• Men’s Open Category - Will Lindsey - first.

• Women’s V45 - Kate Dixon - first; Jenny Maginley - second.

• Men’s V40 - Paul Adams - first.

• Women’s V55 - Nicky Laitner - second.

Outside the Mid-Week League, Jethro Offemaria took part in the Special Olympics Eastern Regional Athletics Championships in Norwich, winning four medals across a range of events. This included a gold in the 800m, silver medals in the 400m race and the shot put, and bronze in the 4 x 100m relay.
