On a crisp bright February morning the Striders were out in force as the Sunday League season wrapped up with its final race at Cassiobury Park. There was a double Strider victory as Adam Yorwerth and Freya Weddell both took first place in the men’s and women’s.

On the roads in Welwyn Garden City there was a sea of yellow and blue competing at the Welwyn 10k.

Patrick Hayes took the win in a PB (35:06) as he celebrated his 45 birthday in some style. Sam Adcock was close behind (35:06) to secure silver and a place on the podium. Flo Thwaites was second woman home in a superb PB time of 38:35. Helen Cartlidge was also first in her category with a time of 42:38 showing the strength in depth of the Strider squad.

Further afield at the Hampton Court Half Marathon PBs were on the cards for Paul Stack (1:22:46), Laurence Blow (1:23:43) and Josef Wheeler (1:23:35). Not to be outdone Adam Herron notched up his fastest HM time (1:29:32) since 2012 proving his hard work in preparation for Cambridge Half next month is starting to bear fruit.

On the track there was success for George Booth and Mark Stevens at the British Universities indoor nationals and the VAC indoor championships at Lee Valley. George ran a PB in the 3000m with a time of 8:50:33 whilst Mark took gold in the M45 3000 and 1500m.
