St Albans Striders victorious at Hertfordshire Cross Country Championships

On Saturday 3rd January, teams of St Albans Striders took on the Hertfordshire Cross Country Championships with Senior Women and Senior Men winning gold.

A notoriously challenging route at Trent Park that saw the runners splash through an icy river, charge through ankle deep mud and scale slippery hills, the teams were victorious.

Several team members across the age categories qualified for inter counties. Five from the Senior Women’s team and three from the Senior Men’s were chosen to represent Hertfordshire at the Inter County Championships. Amongst the qualifiers was Freya Weddell who won the Senior Women’s race, Hannah Rayden, Christina Durbin, Kate Dixon and Emily Hickey-Baird. In the Senior Men's team, Adam Yorwerth, George Booth and James Brydon also qualified.

New Year’s Eve 10k triumph

On 31st December, St Albans Striders and St Albans Athletics Club dominated the annual New Year’s Eve 10k race at Highfield park.

32 St Albans Striders and three St Albans AC members ran the event which had a record-breaking 1,000 runners taking part. George Booth was second in 33:45, Antonia Jubb was second woman in 37:30 and Lily Tse, an U23, came third woman in a time of 37:53.
