Saturday 3rd September saw the 6th running of the ever popular Stampede organised by St Albans Striders. This event which takes place at Heartwood Forest is run over a 12-hour period with some competitors entering as solo runners and others entering as teams of 2, 4 or 8. The winners in each category are those who complete the most laps which are 4 miles per lap.

In the solo category the leading Striders were Carrie Frazer who finished 6th and completed 14 laps (56 miles) followed in 10th position Kate Tettmar who completed 12 laps.

In the 4 team event the Striders picked up 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The teams consisted of Matt Holman, Matt Cooper, Steve Buckle and Jonathan Scott who finished first. Jake Butterfield, Hannah, Burkhardt, Adam Yorweth and Tom Toyer who finished 2nd. Steve Scorer, Andrew Dobinson, Dan Swainsbury and Ian Kelly who finished 3rd just 12 minutes ahead of the 4th placed team.

The 8 team event also went to the Striders with their runners being James McMurray (who also set a lap record of 20.34), Kate Dixon, Tom Croft, Max Campbell, Liliy Seach, Gavin Clifton and Stu Middleton.

In London there was The Big Half which was won by Mo Farah. The Striders had a few of their own runners there too. Stefano Federici finished an impressive 47th in a time of 1.12:08. There was also Laura Hicks in 1.37:31, Alex Johnston 1.35:21, Alex Kett 1.38:52, Ben Thomas 1.44 and Rose McGinness 2.02:12.

At the Oakley 20 Nicky Laitner finished first in her category in a time of 2.49:05.
