Despite this week’s ferocious temperatures St Albans Striders were out in force in local running events with, as usual, many fantastic performances.

On 8th August there was the Hertfordshire & North Middlesex Masters League. There were personal bests for both Clair Drage and Kate Dixon in both the 200m and the 3,000m, Gavin Clifton in the 800m and Nigel Aston in the 3,000m. Out of 9 teams the women are currently 3rd and the men 2nd.

The St Albans 10k took place on 14th August. The first lady was Heather Hann in a time of 38.35. The overall race was won by Stefano Federici in 33.29. In 10th was Patrick Hayes in a new pb of 37.04 and in 24th was Max Campbell in 40.14. Jay Wheeler ran a pb of 45.54, thanks to Striders coach Rich Evans who paced him all the way.

Also on 14th August there was the Burnham Beeches 10k where Graham Smith was first in the V50 category whilst Graham Foster was 1st in the V60 category.

Dette Newby organised marathon training. Several Striders took advantage of the 15 and 17 mile routes in the blistering heat. They were ably supported by marshals who provided water, sweets, water melon and iced lollies on route.

Saving the most incredible to last, Andrew McKillop ran the Gloucester 24 Hour Track Race. He completed an amazing 404 laps which equates to just over 100 miles. He finished 10th out of a field of 39.
