The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
The cost for club membership for the full year or any part of it is £27. If you have volunteered at a Striders event between 1 April 2018 and 31 March 2019 then you are eligible for volunteer membership at the discounted rate of £17.
Striders’ main focus for the weekend was the latest Chiltern League Cross Country match at Stopsley Common, Luton, where the club had an impressive turnout of 27 senior men, and 18 senior women competing alongside numerous junior athletes from St Albans AC. Tom Halling, Jonathan Scott, Steve Buckle, Phillip Evans and Rowan Daly were the top senior men for St Albans.
Lucy Waterlow, Lucy Jones, Jenny Maginley, Jen Conway and Wendy Walsh were the club’s top senior female athletes.
After all races had finished, St Albans were fifth overall, male, and female teams, and fifth in the current standings, with two more matches to take place this season in the new year.
In marathon news, Jack Brooks ran 4:52:49 at the Memphis Marathon, Tennessee. Robin Newby struggled with very hot conditions at the Barbados Marathon to finish in 4:18:44.
Also in warmer climes were Bernadette Newby who completed the Barbados 10K in 1:11:37, and Ivan Ghouse who ran the Lanzarote Half Marathon in 1:45:46.
Ali Hills and Malcolm Coakley both ran personal bests at the Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon.
Kate Burn ran her 250th parkrun, and Marc Phillips his 100th parkrun, both at St Albans, on Saturday. Kate Tettmar was first female finisher at Jersey Farm parkrun, and Richard Fox was first finisher at Rheinaue parkrun in Germany.
Graham Smith and Stu Middleton ran the Andy Reading 10K in Bicester in times of 38:31 and 39:35. Middleton was stunned and ecstatic to achieve a new 10K personal best at the event.
