The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
Just one week after the largest marathon week in history, and the Striders were back for another successful weekend of racing.
Kate Dixon sprang back from the London event to claim a 1st female position in the Kimpton 10k, and was joined in the race by Gavin Clifton and Colin Braybrook.
Elsewhere in the county, we had a few runners competing at the Hitchin 10k. Helen Cartlidge, Karl Tull and John Cooper all came second within their respective age categories.
Slightly further afield, there were brilliant great runs at the hilly Pednor 5 mile race, which was also the Herts Senior 5 mile Championship race. Adam Yorwerth and Hannah Burkhardt were placed 2nd Senior Herts man and women. The St Albans men’s team, comprised of both Striders and members from our sister club, St Albans Athletics Club, came in first place overall, and claimed third position in the Hertfordshire men’s race. Moreover, the team were combined winners of the Herts Senior 5 mile men’s race.
Six striders completed Milton Keynes marathon, and whilst Patrick Hawker completed his first marathon in an amazing time of 2 hours 48 minutes, Jack Brooks ran his 622nd! The event was accompanied by a half marathon completed by Sarah Nubeebuckus, Charlotte Holloway, and Claire Drage in times of 1:46:14, 2:03:39 and 2:19:04, respectively.
Beyond running, Jethro Offermaria won the F20 shotput competition at the May Bank Holiday Championships in Stevenage.
