The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
St Albans Striders delivered an outstanding performance over the weekend, dominating local and regional running events and bringing home a haul of medals that cements their reputation as one of Hertfordshire’s leading running clubs.
The highlight was Sunday’s Hatfield 5, a fast five-mile race that doubled as the Vets Hertfordshire County Championships. Striders athletes stormed the podiums, with over 20 runners earning county medals - a phenomenal achievement for the club. Among the standout performances, Freya Weddell claimed second place in the women’s race, showcasing her strength and consistency.
The men’s veteran team also triumphed, taking first place in the county championships thanks to superb runs from Matthew Cooper, Paul Adams, and Jonathan Scott.
But the success didn’t stop there. Elsewhere, Striders tackled the Chiltern Invitational Trail 10k at Wendover Woods, where Stacey Harris and Max Campbell struck gold in their respective age categories (Women’s and Men’s 60AG), proving that experience and endurance go hand in hand.
On Saturday, four Striders represented the club at the SEAA Masters Cross Country Championships at Horsenden Hill in London. In a fiercely competitive field, Kate Dixon delivered a phenomenal performance, finishing 11th overall.
Also on Saturday, a team of Striders took over volunteering duties at Jersey parkrun to help fill the roster of marshals and timekeepers. Despite the pouring rain, the volunteers smiled and cheered the runners round the muddy 5k route.
