The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
The annual St Albans Stampede, a 12-hour endurance running event, returned on Saturday 6 September 2025, drawing solo runners and relay teams from across the UK to the scenic trails of Heartwood Forest and Nomansland Common.
Organised by us at St Albans Striders, the Stampede challenges participants to complete as many four-mile loops as possible within a 12-hour window. Runners could compete solo, in pairs, or as part of relay teams of up to 4 or 8 members, with prizes awarded based on total distance covered.
The atmosphere was electric from the 9am start, with spectators lining the forest trails and volunteers cheering runners through every lap.
Winners from St Albans Striders included Adam Yorworth and Freya Weddell who won first male and female fastest laps. They also helped to make up the winning Mixed Team of Eight, along with Hannah Yorworth, Megan Walker, Barnaby Walker, Tom Toyer, Claire Buttenshaw and Fergus Sheridan.
First Solo Male was Strider Jacob James, who completed a mammoth 18 laps (72 miles). The winning Female Team of Four was also an all-Strider team, consisting of Eleanor Lambert, Emily Hickey-Baird, Carla Mosley and Catherine O’Connor.
The Stampede continues to grow in popularity, not just as a race but as a celebration of community, resilience and the joy of running. St Albans Striders marshals ensured smooth logistics throughout the day and we are all hugely grateful to everyone who volunteered!
