On Wednesday 50 Striders triumphed in the midweek road race league mob match in Welwyn coming out on top from 22 teams across Division 1 and 2. The event was followed by an end of season award ceremony based on performances in the prior 4 races. The strength and depth of the Striders showed through as they retained the first team place Division 1 title and reclaimed the first veteran team title from Trent Park. Steve Buckle and Freya Weddell were the individual race series winners and Hannah Burkhardt and Mathew Cooper were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Age category awards were won by Jenny Maginley, Kate Dixon, and Louise Bentham. Steve Buckle continued his winning streak at the weekend, coming first at the Lundy Island Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour 37 min on a tough trail route on an island off north Devon.

A few lucky Striders were fortunate enough to claim a place at the Saucony London 10k at the weekend, joining 13,000 runners in what is always a sell out race due to the iconic route passing some of the city’s most famous landmarks with live bands, DJs and cheering fans motivating runners along the route. First home was Lily Seach who was 26th female out of over 6,000 in a time of 39:29, closely followed by Adam Dunbavand (39:38). Other finishers were Ed Poeira (44:31), Wendy Walsh (45:47), Richard Hayes (51:23), Mark Sanders (56:45) and Jethro Offermaria (1:27:57).

Laura Lane completed her first ever 100km, conquering the oldest path in Britain in the Race to the Stones event, traversing the Ridgeway in a time of 13:43:55 and raising an incredible £3,200 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust.

On Sunday, a number of Striders turned out to support sister club St Albans AC at their home fixture in the in the Southern Athletics League, adding a number of welcome points to the overall tally.
