On Saturday 20th September, the Striders teamed up with members of St Albans Athletics Club to form twelve teams at the Southern Road Relay Championships in Aldershot. The undulating course, located in the Rushmoor Arena, was certainly not easy. Nevertheless, the teams performed brilliantly and the day turned out to be a great success

The Masters Women’s team of Stacey Ward, Lucy Waterlow, and Kate Dixon brought home the silver medal, with Stacey running the fastest time in her age category of 24.08 minutes over the 6k distance! Two strong teams competed in the highly competitive Senior Women’s race, with Christina Durbin, Catherine O’Connor, Chloe Cooke and Freya Weddell achieving a fantastic 10th team finish, and Laura Johnston, Hollie Ryder, Rebecca Doidge and Deborah Steer finishing as the 45th team.

The Men’s Senior team, made up of Andrew Shaw, Archie Marshall, Alex Johnston, Thomas Bailey, Edward Anders and Henry Jones, came in 66th out of a huge field of 113 teams.

Further afield, several Striders competed at the prestigious Berlin Marathon. Covering 26.2 miles in temperatures of up to 25 degrees celsius was certainly a challenge, but this didn’t stop Patrick Hayes from achieving a sub-2:50 time of 2:49.55! Running for The Brain Tumour Charity, Alexis Hamilton completed the course in a time of 3:43:37 - which was also a remarkable 14 minute personal best.
