The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
The weather this weekend was certainly not what ideal for racing. However, many Striders didn’t let the torrential rain and gusty winds rule out success.
Close to home, Freya Weddell became the first ever female overall winner at the Stevenage Half Marathon, reaching the finishing line in a remarkable time of 1 hour 17 minutes! She was joined by Justin Phillips, Alan Castle and Michael Barbosa.
Further afield, several Striders ran the Abingdon Marathon. Amongst them were Heather Hann and Matt Cooper, who were both representing England Masters. Heather was third female to the finish, with a time of 2hours 51 minutes, and Matt was 11th overall and third in his age category, completing the course in 2 hours 36 minutes!
Stacey Ormerod and Lucy Waterlow lined up on the elite start at the Great South Run in Portsmouth, completing the 10 mile course in times of 60 minutes and 64 minutes, respectively. Lucy broke the club record for her category, and finished second female in her age group on the day. Jethro Offemaria also ran the course for the National Autistic Society, finishing in a time of 2 hours 34 minutes.
