The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
With Storm Ashley battering the UK, the Striders once again showed their mettle for bringing home metal.
On Saturday, Jenny McGinley marked a significant milestone, in completing her 500th parkrun. She celebrated in style at the St Albans course, in a time of 24:25 with ballons in tow, through heavy rain and mud. Jenny had also taken the 1st Female place at the very first St Albans parkrun, back in January 2012 (20:31). Across 86 venues, she has taken 1st Female spot in exactly half. It feels like there are more milestones to come!
It had been a decade since the last Stevenage Marathon, and there was a great representation in yellow & blue. In driving rain and 40mph winds, Steve Buckle took first place in a blistering 2:40:32, over 9 minutes ahead of his nearest rival.
Andrew Mckillop came fourth in his age category (3:19:41) and was also part of the County Champs silver medal winning team, alongside Alex Johnston (3:29:24), Seb Rowe (3:29:26) and Steve Bowran (3:41:33). However, Will Bowran would have taken the family bragging rights for the weekend, by beating his dad by 1 second. Carrie Frazer also came 12th in her category, with a great time of 4:37:37.
For the half marathon distance, Freya Weddell (1:20:01) and Jim King (1:20:40) both came first in their categories. Will Lindsey delivered an incredible second place (1:14:28), representing the St Albans Athletic Club.
