Several Striders crossed the Atlantic to take part in the New York Marathon this weekend. One of the six marathon majors, the course begins on Staten Island and passes through all five New York Boroughs, finishing in Manhattan’s Central Park.

Ian Hirth was the first Strider to cross the line, in a fantastic time of 2:55:52, followed by Stacey Harris (3:32:34), Rachel Dixon (3:35:03) and Richard Hayes (4:25:04).

Closer to home, six Striders competed in the Stevenage Half Marathon. Ollie Knight (1:23:17) finished 18th overall, while Nigel Aston (1:26:35) was the 2nd M50 finisher. Both recorded PBs. Jim West (1:40:11), Julie Manson (2:00:47), Peter Rogers (2:13:13) and Rajasingham Sivakumaran (2:31:53) also took part.

Jim Simpson, meanwhile, paired up with his daughter Catherine to complete the first round of the Peak Raid 3 series, a fell race traversing the limestone hills and dales of the Peak District’s White Peak.

Finally, Striders’ Chairman Mike Martin teamed up with fellow Striders Tim Searle and Philip Evans to secure 3rd male team at the VeloPark Greenwich Titons Team Duathlon Relays. Each had to complete a 2 mile run, 6 mile cycle and further 1 mile run.

Next weekend will see the return of the Cross Country season, when Striders will take part in the second match of the Chiltern League at Teardrop Lakes in Milton Keynes on Saturday afternoon.
