Marathon season continued this weekend with many Striders heading to the south coast for the Brighton marathon and 10k race.

For several Striders, Brighton was their first marathon.  Magda Bobon finished in 3.51, closely followed by Ben Taylor in 3.52 and Jay A’Court in 4.18.  Richard Olney was thankful the weather was cooler than last year and crossed the finish line in 3.48.  After running the Paris marathon last weekend and Brighton this weekend, Ruth Kent is now 2/3 of the way through her challenge of 3 marathons in 3 weekends, with just London left to go next weekend.

On the same day as the marathon, Tim Searle completed the Brighton 10K in a PB time of 37.26.

More personal bests were achieved elsewhere this weekend. At the UK Boston marathon, Donna Irwin finished in an impressive time of 3.44, while Emma Jardine finished the Thames Valley half marathon in the top 3 ladies in 1.37.

Steve Smith took part in a very hot gold run on the Commonwealth Games marathon course, completing the 5k route in 20.10.

A record number of volunteers from Striders filled all the roles in their ‘take-over’ of St Albans parkrun.  Paul Adams and Jenny Maddocks were the first female male and female runners to finish.    Jen Conway was first lady at Panshanger, while Gary Warren was first at Aldenham parkrun.  Jim King was second at Gadebridge, and a bit further afield, Gareth Beavis finished second at Rome parkrun.

The popular Run with Striders course starts on May 8th.  Further details can be found at https://www.stalbansstriders.com/club-info/joining-striders/run-with-striders
