The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
Over 50 Striders toed the line on Sunday at the London Marathon braving the warm temperatures to tackle the 26.2 miles in the capital.
The record-breaking number of participants and the forth hottest London Marathon to date didn’t put off several Striders who clocked personal best, club records and raised record amounts for charity.
First across the line for Strider’s women was Heather Hann, 2:47, to claim 43rd place in the race overall a PB and a new v35 Club Record! Freya Weddell dipped under 3 hours with a strong 2:55:51 to claim an 18-minute PB. Laura Johnston, 3:08, and Emily Hickey Baird, 3:19, and Carol-Anne Upton 3:55, also managed to claim PBs despite the torrid conditions.
For the men Matthew Cooper was first home in 2:33 closely followed by Johno Yeates 2:38 (PB). Patrick Hayes knocked 4 minutes off his PB to finish in 2:45, while Max Campbell finished in 2:56 to claim 5th overall in his age group.
Jim King completed the Boston and London doubleheader within 6 days in memory of his son Ethan. Jim has raised over £50k for the Bone Cancer Research Trust cementing his place as one of the highest fundraisers at this year’s London Marathon.
Several Striders also took on 26.2 miles in Manchester, with the UK's second largest marathon taking place on the same day. Catherine O’Conner finished an amazing 15th overall and dipped under the 3-hour barrier for 2:59.
On the track this weekend two striders were in action in the 3000m Steeplechase. Adam Yorwerth claimed county gold and a new club record with a time of 10:19:65. His teammate Chris Dennell claimed county silver as the pair took on the challenging track event in Bury St Edmunds.
