The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
On Saturday, Freya Weddell ran in the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool. Running amongst some of the country’s best athletes, she came 39th in the Senior Women’s 8km race, crossing the line in a brilliant time of 29 minutes, 36 seconds.
The next day, Errol and Jenny Maginley took part in the London Ten at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, achieving fantastic times of 1 hour 6 minutes and 1 hour 11 minutes, respectively.
Over in Buckinghamshire, Catherine O’Connor and Mark Stevens ran in the Wendover Woods Trail event. Despite it being an incredibly hilly and muddy course, Catherine finished 2nd overall and 1st woman in the 10k race, covering the distance in a time of 41 minutes and and 42 seconds. Mark was the 29th runner to complete the four-lap half marathon course. He was also 6th in his category, finishing in 2 hours and 9 minutes!
Escaping the cold and rainy British weather, six striders (Caroline Bailes, Suzi Wegenek, Sara Wroth, Jessica Kassel, and Caroline and Jay Wheeler) raced in the International Running Challenge 10k in Lanzarote during the middle of a ‘calima’ (sand storm)!
