This week saw the welcome return of both local Cross-Country leagues as Covid restrictions start to ease. The first fixture of the Chiltern League took place on Saturday at Horspath near Oxford; and the first Sunday League race on Sunday at Cheshunt Park [pic]. Rain early on both days meant conditions were damp and slippy but so early in the season competitors did not face too much mud!

Elsewhere there were plenty of Striders competing in road races. Rob Newby completed the York Marathon in a Personal Best time of 3hr 37 [pic] and Ruth Crowther ran the Marathon de Paris in 4hr 26 – an impressive Personal Best time for a 62-year-old! [pic]

The Cambridge Half Marathon saw several strong Striders performances including a Personal Best time of 1he 46 for Andy Normile [pic]. Meanwhile at the Oxford Half Karen Sheard and Rachel Dixon both completed the distance in a fraction under 1hr 45 [pic].

Finally Alistair Green completed the extraordinary achievement of the Marathon Des Sables, a 150-mile 6-day event through the ferocious heat of the Sahara.
