The St Albans Striders membership year runs from April to March each year, concurrent with the England Athletics membership year.
St Albans Striders made the most of the early May bank holiday with a host of impressive performances on the track and roads.
At the MK festival of running Emily Hickey-Bird ran an impressive 3hrs 27 mins for a marathon PB. Nick Buttenshaw took on the half marathon distance to also grab a huge 4 minute PB finishing in 1hr 30mins.
Closer to home Chris Wrighton took first place at the Watford 10k finishing in 36:55. He was joined by Freya Weddell who was first lady finishing in 41:28 in what proved to be slippery conditions due to torrential rain.
On the trails Kate Dixon and Helen Cartlidge took one and two at the Kimpton 10k. Despite the muddy conditions Carole-Anne Upton managed to finish two minutes faster than her previous best finishing in 50:08. Eva Dixon of St Albans AC also stormed to victory in the 4k at the same event.
With the Senior Herts Championships being held in Stevenage’s several Striders were also in action on the track. Joe McCormick took first place in the senior Herts 1500m finishing in 4:49. Paul Stack also claimed first in the men’s V50 5000m setting a new club record in the process with his time of 18:07. He was joined on the podium by Andrew Mayer to complete another Striders one-two.
