  • The Fred Hughes 10 is a 10 mile road race run round St Albans in Hertfordshire. The 2013 race will take place on Sunday 20nd January at 9:30am.

 

It is with regret that we have taken the decision to cancel the 2013 Fred Hughes.


A group of 10 of us ran the course this morning and it was very quickly evident that it would not be suitable to stage a race with 800 hundred participants. Your safety and that of all our volunteers and partners is paramount.


As well as the course, there are various issues with the conditions of the car parks and the race HQ and many of our partners are predicting difficulties in being able to guarantee a full team and their equipment, which would allow us to put on a safe and enjoyable race.

We do not have any plans to restage the race and I am afraid that as per the entry conditions there will be no refunds, but as originally stated, proceeds will be given to our nominated charity Special Olympics.


We will however, give consideration to anything else we can do by way of compensation or discounted entry to next year's event, and I will update you in due course.


If you would still like to receive your technical T-Shirt, please send an email stating clearly in the subject line your name, runner number, sex and the T-shirt size and we will post one out to you in the next month.


Please rest assured that we are as disappointed to be cancelling the event as you are not to be able to run it, but we look forward to welcoming you to another St Albans Striders event soon.

Entries £17 (affiliated) or £19 (unaffiliated). Online entries have additional RW fee 

Entries are limited to 800 and will close on 14th Jan 2013 or when sold out

Numbers and timing chips will be sent out in January in the week before the race

Due to maintenance work at the school it will not provide changing rooms or showers,  only toilets for both male and female athletes. Kit can be left in the changing rooms or in the main gym but this is entirely at your own risk.

Drinks stations will be available along the route. Refreshments will be available for purchase after the race.

 

Trophies + Prizes

Trophies to the category winners will be presented in the sports hall after the race. These will be awarded to the first 3 individuals in each of the following categories:

  • Male
  • Male veteran over 40
  • Male veteran over 50
  • Male veteran over 60
  • Female
  • Female veteran over 35
  • Female veteran over 45
  • Female veteran over 55.

In addition, there will be team trophies as follows:

  • Men: 1st team (4 per team)
  • Women: 1st team (4 per team)
